A cracked waterskin, the frame of a collapsed awning, and a brazier filled with white ash are all that remain. Beneath the ash is a strip of beaten metal incised with four short bars and a longer fifth cut that has been deliberately crossed out.
The camp's owner understood enough to fear the omitted destination.
